Confirmation Service
Service hours—Why is service necessary?
“Scripture teaches us that God has a special concern for the poor and vulnerable. The church calls on all of us to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.” As you move through this process, hopefully you will find yourself transformed by compassion, kindness and begin to see the face of Jesus in everyone you encounter.
15 service hours
Service should include both parish (through Holy Spirit) and community (outside of Holy Spirit) and will be on the honor system. Meaning no documentation or signatures will be required for both parish or community service.
Faith in action Chat
Upon completion of 15 hours of parish and community service, you will sign up for a “Faith in action chat” via Sign up Genius. Each chat will be approximately 15 minutes. During the chat you will be asked to share your service experiences.
Sample questions:
- How did giving of your time impact others?
- How did it impact you?
- How did you experience God’s presence during your service?
- How do you intend to continue to serve others after you are confirmed?
What is Parish Service?
Serving your parish community by helping at Knights of Columbus events, at pancake breakfasts, the Giving Tree project or Fish Fry dinners to name a few. Also, through the parish clothing drive, summer planting and watering flowers or Vacation Bible School.
Sign up for parish service will be done throughout the year via Sign Up Genius. If you sign up for a parish event, please follow through by showing up. The Knights of Columbus and parish are counting on your help. If you are unable to fulfill your slot at parish event, please find someone else to fill your time slot.
What is Community Service?
Volunteering your time to others in need outside of Holy Spirit is important. It’s a big world, pray and discern about what type of service you have an interest. The goal of community service is to imitate Christ by doing one or more Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
